Galformod

Over the next decade, much of the effort on major astronomical facilities will be dedicated to large scale surveys on the galaxy population. Their aim is two-fold:

understanding the origin and evolution of galaxies and their central supermassive black holes,

clarifying the nature of dark matter, dark energy and the process that produced all cosmic structure.

The goal of Galformod is to develop and release powerful and flexible modeling tools that can simulate the evolution of the galaxy population in all viable cosmologies and under a wide variety of assumptions about the governing physical processes. This is achieved by a major expansion of the functionality and scope of the Millennium Simulation Archive.

MPCDF supports the Galformod project by maintaining and curating the database back-end (SQL Server) as well as by hosting the web services on top of it.
