Bioinformatics Software AND Data BASES

The MPCDF provides software, data sources and application support specific to computational biology applications.

The software suite comprises a comprehensive set of standard tools for classical sequence analysis (blast, clustal, hmmer, phylip, ...). A set of databases (UniProt, GenBank, PDB, ...) is mirrored at the MPCDF to enable high-throughput applications on parallel compute clusters.

In addition, a number of biology-related web applications are hosted by the MPCDF, e.g.:

  • Movebank (http://www.movebank.org): a free, online database of animal tracking data (developed at MPI for Ornithology with collaborators)
  • Galaxy (https://www.bioinfo.mpg.de/galaxy): Galaxy is an open source, web-based platform for data intensive biomedical research. The MPCDF is operating a Galaxy instance for the MPG, in collaboration with several Max Planck Institutes.
  • HaloLex (https://www.halolex.mpg.de): comprehensive annotation and information system for prokaryotic genome and proteome data (developed at MPI of Biochemistry and MPCDF)  access restricted/on request
  • EUCLIS (decommissioned in Mar 2019): a comprehensive information system for the EU Chronobiologists (developed at LMU Munich and MPI of Biochemistry)
  • MCTQ (decommissioned in Sep 2017): the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (developed at LMU Munich, operated by RZG/MPCDF)
  • MIGenAS toolkit (decommissioned in Jan 2018):  web-based toolkit and workflow engine for integrated sequence analysis (developed at the RZG, and operated 2005-2017)
