The virtual faxbox

The faxbox is DEACTIVATED by default. If you want to use this feature please request it by emailing with your User-ID, Email address and internal phone extension.

Sending fax messages

Please open your email program, usually this would be Mozilla Thunderbird. Please click on "Write" in order to compose a new email. The recipient of the email has to be:

faxg3/ (rather than

Replace FAXNR with the fax number you wish to send your fax message to (the area prefix is always required even if the recipient is inside of the Munich phone area), e.g. 08932991301.

Please write your fax message directly into the email - the fax server will convert your text message to a fax message automatically. The subject text will be ignored.

If you want to send a document by fax (e.g. Word, Powerpoint, OpenOffice Write, etc.) please attach your document file as mail attachment. The fax server will convert the attachment to a fax message automatically.

Supported file formats for attachments are:

  • Postscript                      (*.ps, *.pdf)
  • Microsoft Office 2002/XP  (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • OpenOffice 2.0             (Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw)
  • Plain-Text                     (*.txt)
  • Grafiken                      (JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, PNG)
If possible you should use the PDF format or an image format for sending attachments as fax messages, because only here you can be sure that the text formatting/layout will stay the same. On office document formats the text formatting/layout may differ with the one on your PC.

Receiving fax messages

A set up and activated faxbox is required for the use of this feature.

Fax messages can be received through the fax number +49 89 3299 96[YOUR-EXTENSION]. You have to replace [YOUR-EXTENSION] with your internal phone extension, e.g. 1301.

The fax server will convert fax messages sent to this fax number to email messages and send it to your email address as PDF attachment.

Sending SMS messages

The receipt of SMS messages is not possible.

To send an SMS, email the message to "sms/", e.g. "sms/"

The email text (plain text - no HTML) will be converted to a SMS message and sent. The SMS message is limited to 160 characters as it is usual for SMS messages.
