Wireless Networking

eduroam QR codeThe eduroam CAT tool is used to configure  wireless networking (eduroam and IPP Intern) on all common devices and operating systems:

(or scan the code on the right with your mobile phone)

This was tested successfully on recent versions of Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and iOS.

When asked for your credentials, just input  your normal MPCDF/IPP username and password (no @rzg.mpg.de).

Android users wanting to use IPP Intern at the moment unfortunately still need to do some manual configuration.

Apple iOS users that had configured IPP Intern before might need to remove the old wireless profile before installing the new CAT profile: Settings > General > Profiles > Select IPP Intern -> Select Remove

Please note that devices manually configured using the old rzg.mpg.de realm and certificate will stop working after 09/15/2018.

Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide wireless roaming service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity on campus and when visiting other participating institutions.

Eduroam users will be assigned guest addresses and may not be able to access internal services such as the IPP intranet.

IPP Intern

The IPP-Intern wireless network is available to IPP users on the Garching campus. Is treated similar to local wired networks and as such generally allows access to internal services such as the IPP intranet.

Guest networks

In some meeting rooms, additional unencrypted guest networks such as D2-Gast and AUG-Guest are available that require no authentication.
Those are there for the convenience of guests without an MPCDF account but less secure. MPCDF/IPP users should generally always use the eduroam or IPP-Intern networks.
